Clonazepam is prescribed by licensed healthcare providers to manage seizure disorders, panic disorder, and certain anxiety conditions. It is a benzodiazepine that works by enhancing the effect of GABA, a neurotransmitter that calms overactive brain activity. Dosage is individualized based on the patient’s condition, age, and response to treatment. For panic disorder, adults often start at 0.25 mg twice daily, with gradual increases under medical supervision as needed. For seizure management, dosing typically begins low and is carefully titrated to achieve optimal control while minimizing side effects. Clonazepam should be taken exactly as prescribed, at consistent intervals. Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired coordination; alcohol and other sedatives should be avoided. Due to dependence and withdrawal risks, treatment duration is closely monitored, and discontinuation requires a gradual taper under a healthcare provider’s supervision.
