Clonazepam is prescribed by licensed healthcare providers to manage seizure disorders, panic disorder, and certain anxiety conditions. It belongs to the benzodiazepine class and works by enhancing the calming effect of GABA, a neurotransmitter that helps regulate overactive brain activity. Dosage is individualized based on the patient’s condition, age, and response to therapy. For adults with panic disorder, treatment often starts at 0.25 mg twice daily, with gradual increases as directed by a clinician. For seizure management, dosing begins at a low level and is carefully titrated to achieve optimal control while minimizing side effects. Clonazepam should be taken exactly as prescribed, at consistent intervals, and not altered without medical guidance. Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired coordination. Because of dependence and withdrawal risks, discontinuation requires a gradual taper supervised by a healthcare provider.
